OUR PROGRAMS KEY ACHIEVEMENTS

HIV/AIDS, HEALTH AND GBV PREVENTION

Under USAID Turengere Abana Program 


During this quarter in collaboration with USAID Rwanda, and governmental institutions, especially the districts where we operate, we provided HIV incidence reduction interventions to 25,628 Adolescent Girls and Young Women through 141 Safe Spaces in both Nyanza and Rwamagana districts. 

We also supported the total of 22,827 orphans and vulnerable children and their households affected and/or infected with HIV/AIDs with interventions that aim at improving their well-being; by strengthening their economic capacities, supporting the HIV-infected beneficiaries to adhere to ART, and reaching out to those who are not infected with information on HIV/AIDs prevention. 

On  27th May 2022, FXB Rwanda joined security organs in the campaign entitled "School anti-crime campaign" with the objective of reinforcing community awareness and breaking the silence around GBV for timely reports and services seeking for GBV victims. The campaign reached out around to 15,000 students in Nyanza and Muhanga districts.


Under NSP-HIV/TB Project 


During this quarter, we provided HIV prevention interventions designed for the key populations to a total of 1,733 female sex workers and 459 men who have sex with other men (MSM) and transgender.

From 25 to 27 May 2022,  42 peer educators of men who have sex with other men (MSM) were trained on how to remain HIV-free. The training sharpened their minds on how to continuously help themselves and their fellows remain HIV-free by adopting the best practices. After closing training sessions, the participants received the Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials.

To share the program's implementation progress and advocate for access to health service problems faced by the key populations, on the  14th, 17th, and 21st June 2022, the quarterly stakeholders' coordination meetings were convened and brought together  89 leaders and health practitioners in districts of Kamonyi,  Musanze, and Gakenke. The meetings served as a great opportunity for the key population representatives to share the issues around keeping their health safe, network, and discuss with the actors about quality health service provision to save their life. 
 

Under AMIE Project


We provided HIV prevention interventions to 700 adolescent girls and young women through their 8 safe spaces in Sector of Runda, Kamonyi District. These beneficiaries receive the SRHR and sexual consent, and other related life skills that enable them to fight against HIV/AIDS contamination. 
 

Under FXBVillage Gasharu II Program


On 28 and 29 May 2022, we collaborated with health centers to conduct voluntary HIV testing among our beneficiaries. A total of 267 beneficiaries were tested and got a chance to know their HIV status through this activity.
 
ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

Under FXBVillage Gasharu II Program


Under this program, we provided start-up funds to 880 family beneficiaries for them to create income-generating activities and had their collective agri-businesses harvested for the first time in June 2022. The same families continued their savings and lending activities in this quarter.  in addition, 8,200,000 million Rwandan Francs were provided to 160 families as economic start-up support to be able to start their individual income-generating activities. 
 

Under USAID Turengere Abana Program 


A total of 1,347 beneficiaries we supported in attending Technical and Vocational Education Trainings (TVET) have graduated. After graduation, they were trained on pathways to economic employment and entrepreneurship and they also got supported with start-up kits for job creation. 

To uphold the saving and lending culture among beneficiaries, we supported 3,086 Adolescent Girls and Young Women and 4,483 caregivers of AGYW and OVC united in Internal Saving and Lending Groups (ISLGs) to strengthen their economic resilience through saving and lending activities and creation of income generating activities. 
 

Under AMIE Project


During this quarter, 582 Adolescent girls and young women received financial and business development trainings through their saving and lending groups  
EDUCATION 


Under USAID Turengere Abana 


A total of 35,286 Adolescent Girls Young Women and Orphans and Vulnerable Children in primary and secondary education received education support including school fees and school feeding.
 

Under AMIE Project 


In this quarter, we provided scholastic materials including hygienic and other needed materials to 199 adolescent girls and young women. We have closely worked together with the sector-level education officers and school leaders where these children study for joint supervision support to improve high-level school performance. 
 

Under FXBVillage Gasharu II Program 


The 120 students from a total of 160 families got the education support of scholastic materials and school fees. The parents of these children keep working with the program to build the resilience deemed to increase the support provided.  
EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT 

Under Sugira Muryango Program 


On 4th and 5th April 2022, through Sugira Muryango Program, we organized the site visit and Early Childhood Development activities scaling workshop in Ngoma district engaging MIGEPROF, NCDA, LODA, MOH/RBC, District and Sector Officials as well as World Bank delegates to learn about program achievements and pathways to scale. The participants appreciated how the program is impacting families by promoting playful parenting and reducing violence in the targeted households.

On 21st May 2022, we received visitors from USAID Washington and USAID Mission Rwanda for the organized site visit in Nyanza district. During the site visit, the visitors including  Nyanza local officials visited families who benefited from Sugira Muryango Program sessions witnessing the changes and impact recorded after the delivery of the interventions. 
WASH AND NUTRITION 

Under WASH and Nutrition Project


On 17th May 2022, we have supported 150 Families (families with children, lactating or pregnant mothers having malnutrition problems) with WASH materials including hand washing stations and Water Filters for improving the WASH practices in their families. 

To contribute to food security and a balanced diet among our supported families, through their 8 groups, 150 parents representing the families were supported with hoes on the same date of 17th May 2022 to back their continuous agricultural activities. During this quarter, the targeted families also continued receiving nutrition and agriculture skills through these 8 groups known as their Famer Field Schools (8 FFs Groups).
 

Under FXBVillage Gasharu II Program


To follow up on the nutrition status of children, on 30 June 2022, we collaborated with health facilities to conduct nutrition screening (taking anthropometric measurements) for the children of family beneficiaries. A total of 44 children were screened and found healthy. 
SOCIAL 

 


Under FXB Village Gasharu II Program


We provided training on family rights law, matrimonial laws, and child rights to 105 families to promote their well-being and safeguard child’s rights. As a result, 85 families which lived without legal marriage committed to legally marry on June 15th, 2022. The district officials commended the collaboration with FXB Rwanda to promote the resilience and livelihoods of these families.
ENGAGEMENT AND EVENTS

Between 26 and 27th May 2022, in partnership with the University of Rwanda, College of Medicine and Health Sciences Center for Mental Health, Boston College, and UNICEF Rwanda, through Sugira Muryango program, we have participated in Rwanda Research Symposium 2022 under the theme of "Evidence based Research Practices in the Field of Mental Health and Child Development”. The Symposium gathered partners, students, professionals, and researchers to discuss the best means of intervening in mental health and child development research in Rwanda.


From 13th to 16th June 2022, the Sugira Muryango Program Manager attended the Saving Brains workshop organized by Grand Challenges Canada in Leiden, Netherlands through which he presented the progress of the Sugira Muryango, vision for the next coming 10 years and steps for scale-up through case clinics session.


On 25-28 April 2022, FXB International program manager, Janneret Sacha visited FXB international funded projects activities implemented by FXB Rwanda to monitor the progress. The visited activities included saving and lending activities, FMP sessions for parents of beneficiaries, and SRHR sessions for Adolescent Girls and Young Women. In his remarks, the pieces of advice around living the goal oriented life and self-reliance to beneficiaries were provided. 


During this quarter, we collaborated and participated in the open day events in the districts of Rwamagana, Nyanza, Ngoma, and Kamonyi organized in collaboration with the districts where we operate. Throughout the events, we exhibited to the participants the interventions we provide. 


On 16 June 2022,  we joined districts of operations and other stakeholders to celebrate AFRICAN CHILD DAY with National theme of “Protecting the Child, Building a Better Tomorrow.” The event was merged with supporting Teen moms TVET graduates with toolkits to create jobs and break the cycle of poverty and build a better tomorrow
